Second Chair as Warrior! Is this Biblical?

I'll give you my take on this later, but I wanted to hear from you all in the Second Chair Community. Do you ever see yourself as the Warrior who is sent into battle to fight the fight for the first chair, to keep them from getting too messy? Give us some of the story, some context, what you learned about yourself, how you felt.

There are some Old Testament Themes in and around this concept. What about in the New Testament Church? Is the Second Chair a place that executes judgment when it comes to church discipline?

I don't have all my thoughts formed around this, and I don't know if I am alone in this thinking. All I know is that over time, I have been given some pretty rough assignments and sometimes I was executing the will of another as part of my role. Don't you just love the second chair?

Greetings, I am new to the blogging arena for Second Chair, but have read the book and even bought it for two friends. Excellent resource. I have been in my second chair for a relatively short time, but do feel that part of my job is to make the first chair look good. I have not had to handle a discipline issue, but have had to take some assignments from my first chair basically because he did not want to do them. This has frustrated me a little at times because it was on top of everything I was already doing. Fortunately I serve a first chair that will fight his own battles.

Thanks for the welcome! One example from the OT is Aaron for Moses. In relation to the question (okay sort of) there is the time when Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving the law Ex 32) from God and Aaron was left with the people. Granted he did not do a good job in Moses' absence. But the point is, he had a responsibility to lead while Moses was gone which in this case meant leading a group who were very much disgruntled. This meant taking a lot of heat for his number one.

I Samuel 3: Samuel was afraid to tell Eli the vision...
Several of us in 2nd chair positions are trying to function with a 1st chair in chaos. Thinking too of David and Saul...
The 2nds are rallying together and
leading by doing what I call "the work-around". An interesting tension between keeping the ministry functioning without exposing the weaknesses in the 1st chair. Warrior heart is definately needed. Boldness and courage. Hope it's OK for women in leadership to post here.
Thanks,
from a Christian Woman in Leadership

Back from blog oblivion...

I do think this is a biblical concept, but I don't know that I've ever been asked to do it. My pastor likes to be on the front lines, dealing with issues himself. Sometimes that's good, because he takes repsonsibility, sometimes it's bad, because we don't always have a chance to learn how to fight as well.

Honestly, this was kind of a confusing question to me. I'm rambling...

And, as I assume that I'll be getting an iPod this Saturday when my wife and I celebrate my birthday (march 4, but I'll be away from my wife), I'm waiting for the second chair leader podcast. Anyone else waiting for the second chair leader podcast?
